There are different assessment types that are used in learning environments. Students can also be evaluated using either direct or indirect assessments.

Summative Assessment
A formal assessment of knowledge after learning has ended, such as a final exam at the end of a semester.
Direct Assessments
Student production of a skill or knowledge, such as the student performing a special test.
Formative Assessment
An assessment that occurs at any point during the learning process, such as feedback provided to a student after they perform a skill.
Indirect Assessments
Student perception of their own skills or knowledge competence, such as a survey given to the student. This is often used to gauge comfort levels.
