Provide Learning Opportunities

The goal is to provide open opportunities to learn, but not to force the student to participate. Some students learn and become comfortable quicker than others; we must demonstrate patience and understanding for student differences.

In helping students to feel comfortable practicing their skills, it is best to take a step-wise approach. Start with discussing the knowledge or skill. Then, have the student practice on a classmate or yourself. Finally, transition the student to work on an actual patient.

Learning opportunities should be coupled with motivating the student. Motivation affects both their participation and initiative in working with patients. There are two types of motivation that we need to be aware of:
